What's on at Advent and Christmas

Come and join us for our Advent events...
... and stay for Christmas!

Across our three churches, we have a variety of special events and services planned for Advent and the Christmas season.  We invite you to join us at one or more of the following.

Advent Windows

Like the Advent Calendars that we open at home, starting on the first day of December and going through to Christmas Eve, each day a new window will be "opened" (lit) in a home, shop, business or school within walking distance of St Mark's Church.  All of the "opened" windows will be lit, each evening, from 6 pm - 9 pm.  A map of the 24 windows will be available in church, on our Facebook page "St Mark's Advent Windows" and here on our website if you follow this LINK.    Spread the news ... tell your friends and neighbours.

We held a simple ceremony to mark the "opening" of the first window, at St Mark's, on Friday 1 December 2017 at 6pm.  We sang one of our favourite carols, and had hot chocolate and some seasonal nibbles.  The last one, on Christmas Eve - 24 December, will be 'opened' during our Christingle Service which starts at 4 pm.

... and Angels

If you see one of our St.. Mark's knitted angels in and around Whitehills and Spring Park, pick her up, take her home and invite her to be part of your Christmas celebrations.  You may also want to take one and pass her on to a friend, neighbour or family member.  They come with our love and best wishes for a joyful and happy Christmas.

Christmas Tree Festival

We invite you to come and see our historic St. John the Baptist church decorated with dozens of beautifully and imaginatively decorated christmas trees.

Opening times:

Saturday 2 December 2017 - 10am to 4pm
Sunday 3 December 2017 - 1pm to 4pm

Adults - £2
Children - Free

Refreshments will be available in the Chapter House.  And some activities for children (see below).

A Christmas Carol

We invite you to join us for a Dickensian evening of carols and readings from A Christmas Carol on Saturday 9th December 2017 at 7pm in St. Mark's church, St. Mark's Crescent, NN2 8EG.  Tickets are £5 per person, including refreshments.  If you wish, you can come in Victorian costume.

For more details and tickets, please contact Liz May on 01604 844565.

Advent Bible Study

It is all too easy to become so familiar with the Christmas story that it begins to lose some of its impact.   We will be using the York course "So What are We Waiting For?".

Sessions will take place on:

Tuesday evenings, 28th November, 5th December, 12th December, 19th December starting at 7.30pm and finishing around 9pm, all at St John the Baptist Church.

Wednesday mornings, 29th November, 6th December, 13th December, 20th December, starting at 10.30 am at St John the Baptist Church.

If you can only make one or two of these sessions, come along and enjoy those that you can make.

For more details, please contact one of the clergy team (see Who's Who).
