What's on at Advent and Christmas

​​Come and join us for our Advent events...
​... and stay for Christmas!

Across our three churches, we have a variety of special events and services planned for Advent and the Christmas season.  We invite you to join us at one or more of the following.

Advent Course     

Begins on Wednesday 29th November at 7.30pm in the Chapter House at St John the Baptist.  It continues on the following Wednesdays 6th,13th and 20th December.  We will be exploring Waiting, God’s Timing, The Power of Peace and God with Us, through prayer, reading the Bible, reflecting with each other and responding to what we learn.

Please let a member of the clergy team know if you would like to come- we really look forward to growing in our faith together through Advent.

 

Teddy's Christmas Trail 

Follow Teddy's Christmas Trail at St Mark's Church from Monday 4th December Teddy has been busy getting ready for Christmas.  Follow this LINK for question sheet.

Memorial Tree

During December at St Mark's Church,  tie a ribbon or add a decoration in remembrance for someone you are not able to be with this Christmas.  There will be a box of ribbons for you to use but you are welcome to add your own decoration 

 

Christmas Tree Festival

We invite you to come and see our historic St. John the Baptist church decorated with dozens of beautifully and imaginatively decorated christmas trees.  As well as the Christmas Trees there will be Nativity Scenes on display, the trees will be judged and refreshments will be available.

Opening times: Saturday 2nd December  10 am - 6 pm                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         Sunday    3rd December   1 - 4 pm

Admission:           Adults  £2             Children   free

Refreshments will be served in the Chapter House

 

Carol Services

All three of our churches will be holding one or more carol services in the lead up to Christmas.

St. David Church - Eastern Avenue South, NN2 7QB -  followed by refreshments in the hall. Date to be confirmed shortly

 

St. John the Baptist church - The Green, NN2 6QD

Sunday 3rd December -   6 pm
Carols on the Green

Singing of carols out of doors is part of our Christmas tradition.  We gather on the village green to add our voices to those of our church choir as we sing traditional Christmas carols.  Followed by mince pies and mulled wine.

Sunday 17th  December, 6pm
Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols
A traditional service of well-known Christmas carols and Bible readings telling the story of Jesus' birth, with the singing led by our church choir. 

 

St. Mark church - St. Mark's Crescent, NN2 8EG

Sunday 17th December - 4 pm

Carols on the Green
Singing carols out of doors is part of our Christmas tradition.  We will gather outside of the church on St. Mark's Crescent to sing carols and listen to a pipe band.  Followed by refreshments.

 

Crib & Christingle Services

All three of our churches will be holding a crib and/or christingle service in the lead up to Christmas.  These services are particularly geared for children and families, and are very popular.  There is a magical moment when the candles are lit and the electric lights go out, and a carol is sung by candlelight.

Come and listen to the story of Jesus, the light in the darkness, and join in with the singing of some well-known carols.

We  welcome families of all ages on Christmas Day morning at 10am

Midnight Mass  St. John the Baptist church - 11.30pm

Celebrate Christmas Day as it begins.  Enjoy singing Christmas carols, hear again of the birth of Jesus, and take time to reflect on what Christmas - and indeed life - is a

Monday 25th December 2023     Christmas Day

St. John the Baptist church - 10am Family Eucharist
St. Mark church - 10am Family Communion

Join us at one of our churches for a short, relaxed and family-orientated service of Holy Communion.  Get out of the house, take time on Christmas morning to sing carols, hear Christmas readings and thank God for Jesus.
